March 18, 2010 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University football coach Dave Clawson has announced the hiring of Nick Monroe as an assistant coach. Monroe will work with the safeties after spending six years at Colgate and replaces Shannon Morrison, who was named the cornerbacks coach at Memphis.
Monroe spent time all over the defensive side of the field at Colgate, beginning as an outside linebackers coach before moving to the secondary in 2006. In two years as a secondary coach, Monroe had three first team all-Patriot League selections and a second team pick. In 2008, cornerback Wayne Moten was named Colgate's Defensive MVP and was first team all-league. Most recently, Monroe was the co-defensive coordinator for the Raiders.
Prior to his time at Colgate, Monroe was a defensive backs coach for two seasons at Allegheny College, where the team won a conference championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Monroe was a four-year letterwinner at St. Cloud State and a one year starter at cornerback. He graduated from St. Cloud State in 2001 with a degree in marketing.
