BGSU Gymnastics Signs Four

Bowling Green State University head gymnastics coach, Kerrie Beach, has announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jamilah Ali, Chelsea Anderson, Amanda Lievendag and Gina Locigno will join BGSU for the 2011-12 season.

“I am thrilled with the four gymnasts we have signed,” said Beach. “Each athlete brings a unique set of skills to our program and I feel strongly that all four athletes have potential to be all-around competitors. All four gymnasts are strong students and people of good character. I look forward to the continued growth they will add to our program.”
Ali, a native of Toms River, N.J., currently attends Manchester Township High School and competes with the Northeast Elite Gymnastics Club, coached by Eric Duquette. She was the 2009 New Jersey vault and floor exercise champion, and finished fourth in the all-around in the same state meet. In 2008, she finished fourth in the all-around at the Eastern National Championships (level 9).
“Jamilah Ali is an absolute power house,” said Beach. “She will quickly be recognized for her ability on vault and floor, while also possessing skills on bars and beam. Her success in the state of New Jersey will translate well to the college level.”
Anderson comes to Bowling Green from Mason, Ohio, where she attends William Mason High School. She currently is competing for the Perfection Gymnastics Club, coached by Enrique Trabanio. She is a two-time Junior Olympic National Championship Qualifier (2007-08) and she was the 2008 Region-5 balance beam and all-around champion.

“Chelsea Anderson is a graceful gymnast, said Beach. “I am looking forward to Chelsea really shining on balance beam. She has beautiful form on every event and she is a solid competitor. Her experience at multiple Junior Olympic National Championships will definitely be an asset to her college career.”
Lievendag currently attends Fallston High School in Baldwin, Maryland. She is coached by Becky Schaller and is a member of Harford Gymnastics Club. 2010 was a special year for the future Falcon, earning the Maryland State All-Around Championship, while also qualifying for the Junior Olympic National Championships and capturing the balance beam title at the Sweetheart Invitational. In 2009 she won the vault and finished second in the all-around at the Christmas on the Chesapeake Meet.
“Amanda Lievendag is an up and coming gymnast,” said Beach. “She's the level 10 all-around state champion from Maryland, and qualified to nationals last season for the first time. Her quickness sets her apart on floor exercise and her beautiful lines add to the other events. She will bring excellent skills to our line up.
Locigno, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., currently attends Boca Raton High School and competes for the American Twisters Gymnastics Club, coached by Gary Anderson. In 2010 she won the all-around championship at the Sun-N-Surf Challenge, as well as, the Tim Rand Invitational. She finished seventh in the all-around at the Florida State Championships that same year. Gabi Swanson, a current member of the BGSU gymnastics team, also came from the American Twisters Gymnastics Club.
“Gina Locigno is solid on all four events,” said Beach. “She is definitely a strong uneven bar swinger. She comes from a great gym and a great coach, Gary Anderson. We look forward to adding her skills to our program.”
