Erica Fullenkamp Signs With BGSU Volleyball
November 10, 2010 | Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University volleyball coach Denise Van De Walle has announced the signing of Erica Fullenkamp to a National Letter of Intent. Fullenkamp is the daughter of Mark and Jackie Fullenkamp and hails from Minster, Ohio.
“I first saw Erica as a freshman and she is the youngest player I have seen that I was sold on right away,” Van De Walle said. “She keeps getting better and she is exactly what we need to get back to the top of the conference. She brings all the intangibles coaches look for in that she is a hard worker, she's passionate, and she's a committed team player who is highly motivated. She's unique in that she can play multiple positions for us.”
While Fullenkamp has been recruited as a setter, she is also a dangerous hitter and is the first player to come to Bowling Green who finished her high school career with 1,000 kills and 1,000 assists. She is the 2010 Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was an AVCA/Max Preps National Player of the Week.
Along with those honors, Fullenkamp, who stands at 5-foot-10, is a two-time First Team All-Ohio player, a three-time first team All-MAC player, a two-time first team all-district performer, and has been chosen team MVP four times. She is also a member of National Honor Society and would like to be a high school history teacher and volleyball coach after her college playing days are over.
“Erica is as good academically as she is athletically,” Van De Walle said. “She carries nearly a 4.0 grade point average and we couldn't be happier to have her.”
With the youngest team in Van De Walle's 28-year tenure at Bowling Green, the team has built a strong foundation for the future with a highly talented freshman class and a group of sophomores and juniors who will lead the program in the future.
