Falcons garner award for first time in program history
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team has earned an academic honor from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Falcons have received the NSCAA/adidas College Women's Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year, the NSCAA office has announced.
"I am delighted for our program to earn this national recognition, and tremendously proud of everyone who has contributed to this achievement," said Falcons head coach Andy Richards. "Not only does this award represent a commitment to academics by our student-athletes, but also a reward for the student-athlete academic support staff, as well as the coaching staff, for their hard work and support."
The Falcons of head coach Andy Richards earn the honor for the first time in program history. BGSU was one of four Mid-American Conference schools to receive the award.
"This achievement sets these teams apart from the others, demonstrating the programs' commitment to achievement on the field and in the classroom," said Joe Cummings, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the NSCAA.
The NSCAA/adidas College Women's Team Academic Award is given to women's soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The Falcons had a team GPA of 3.26 during the '08-09 academic year.
