December 07, 2009 | Women's Basketball
Bowling Green State University women's basketball junior Lauren Prochaska has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon (Dec. 7). Prochaska earns the honor for the first time this season and the sixth time in her Falcon career.
Prochaska, a native of Plain City, Ohio (Jonathan Alder H.S.), averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as the Falcons picked up a pair of victories last week. BGSU downed Saint Francis (Pa.), 77-72, at venerable Anderson Arena, then posted a 66-60 win over nationally-ranked Vanderbilt in Nashville.
In Tuesday's (Dec. 1) Saint Francis game, Prochaska had a double-double, with 27 points and 10 rebounds. She then scored 14 points and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals in Friday's (Dec. 4) win over the #14/16 VU Commodores. That win was BGSU's first over a nationally-ranked team since a victory over Vandy in the 2007 NCAA Championships.
Prochaska averaged 39.0 minutes per game on the week, playing all 40 minutes against SFU and 38 minutes vs. Vanderbilt. She shot 65 percent from the field, going 13-of-20 in the two games. Prochaska also averaged 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.0 steals per game on the week.
On the season, Prochaska is averaging 15.6 ppg and 6.6 rpg to lead the team in both categories. She is tied for the BG lead in blocks (1.0 bpg).
Prochaska earned this week's MAC P-O-W honor for the East Division. Central Michigan's Britni Houghton was named the MAC Player of the Week in the West Division.
The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, 5-2 on the season, continue a season-high five-game road swing with a Wednesday (Dec. 9) trip to Detroit, before heading to Western New York for a Saturday (Dec. 12) matchup against undefeated Saint Bonaventure.
