Mike Liut was a four-year letterman for the Falcon Hockey team from 1974-77. A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Liut played in a total of 89 games during his Falcon career, compiling a record of 53-27-1 with a 3.35 goals against average and a .888 save percentage.
Twice a first team All-CCHA pick and once a second team All-CCHA selection, Liut was the CCHA Player of the Year in 1976-77, his senior year. During his four years on the team, the Falcons compiled a 92-49-4 record.
After graduating with a degree in business in 1977, Liut signed with the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association. He played for the Stingers for two years, and then signed with the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League in 1979. In his five years in the NHL, Liut was recognized as one of the top goaltenders in all of hockey. In the 1980-81 season, Liut was a first team All-Star and was runner-up to Wayne Gretzky in the Player of the Year balloting.
Mike Liut was elected to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982.
